Meet our experts…
Between us we have visited every hotel, every cottage, every villa on every island. We have been to the bars and restaurants too – and the sights and attractions – done the hikes, been on the boats, shopped in the mini-markets and met the locals . . .
We pride ourselves on the highest possible standards of customer service in our UK office and we have won awards to prove that we have achieved this – including the prestigious honour of being voted UK Travel Company of the Year
It’s 30 plus years in the travel business now and I enjoy it just as much as ever. We have such a lot of delightful clients and it is a real pleasure to arrange their holidays for them. It is a privilege to have the trust of so many repeat guests who come back to us again and again.
We also take great pleasure from the fact that we have a business that contributes to the economic development of the beautiful islands we deal with. We are also very pleased to be helping local people by promoting the right sort of tourism to their island.
I have been very fortunate to travel around the world so much – not just to the Caribbean – and I am often asked which is my favourite island? Impossible to say but I do have some favourite spots for a cold beer at sunset – Dodgy Dock at True Blue, or La Sagesse (both in Grenada), or the Atlantis in Barbados or the Hermitage in Nevis. In Bequia it would be any little bar around that stunning harbour. Each island is wonderful in its way and these are the places I dream of on a rainy day in Somerset. Not forgetting the endless list of beautiful beaches…..
I am also privileged to work with such an amazing team of staff – I marvel at their knowledge and ability to arrange wonderful holidays, and their dedication to customer service of the highest possible standard never waivers. The team below are the very heartbeat of the business which I am proud to own.
Ours is a family business and we love working with hotels that are family concerns too. We share the same ideals about customer service and also the personal touches – which our clients love.
Gerry and I have so many happy memories of all the islands we have visited but I love to find new places too. The east coast of Barbados is a new favourite with its wild undiscovered beaches and charming little villages – it’s fabulous! I was born by the sea in North Wales so I am drawn to beaches – the Caribbean has countless wonderful beaches but Lower Bay in Bequia is very hard to beat.
We have really enjoyed seeing tourism grow gently in Bequia and I can honestly say that the island gets better every time I visit it. The standard and variety of the food gets better all the time too and it now has an array of places to eat to suit all tastes and all budgets. Bequia is a real gem…….
My love of the Caribbean islands began many years ago when I spent several years living and working in the region – albeit it in some of the larger islands as well as Venezuela and Mexico. Much of my working life has been spent in travel, either in tour operating or as a travel agent, but since joining the Just Grenada Group in 2005 I have been lucky enough to visit some of the smaller islands such as Bequia. It’s nice to be part of a small specialist company where there is so much attention to detail. We have become real experts at creating unique multi-centre holidays and I love the challenge of putting these trips together and making sure all the connections are smooth and seamless, and it is so rewarding when all the pieces of the jigsaw come together and they always do in the end!
Bequia is such a special place and from the first time I visited, several years ago now, I fell in love with its authentic and laid back atmosphere and genuinely friendly and welcoming people. When we first started to arrange holidays here we thought people would go once and that would be it, but no, many of our clients have returned two, three or even four or more times!! I think that says it all…..
Since taking a Freddie Laker flight in the 70’s I have been hooked on travel and my family and I love to travel to new places. But … I am lucky to have now returned to Bequia several times – to enjoy the perfect balance of a great range of accommodation, lots of eating out choices, pristine uncrowded beaches and excellent Rum Punches! A perfect day on Bequia might be a morning swim on Friendship Bay followed by a walk over to Lower Bay – stopping at Keegans for refreshments and more swimming! Walk over to Princess Margaret Beach and a possible stop at Jack’s Bar then round to the Belmont Walkway for ice cream and / or cake at the Gingerbread Café! Dinner at the Fig Tree and a taxi home! My Bequia photos show the perfect island paradise – without hordes of tourists!
I joined the team here in 2002 and I’ve really enjoyed watching the Caribbean programme grow as we have added more and more islands to the Just Grenada Group. I started my working life for the company in an administration role and although my main role is still overseeing the administration of holiday arrangements, I now also love arranging holidays for clients using the knowledge I have gained from my many visits to the islands. It’s great talking to people about what they want from a holiday and being able to make their idea a reality!
I have visited Bequia many times over the last few years and it never fails to delight. I find it so much more relaxing than any of the other islands that we feature, a snapshot of how things used to be, where the pace of life is s-l-o-w!!
I instantly fell in love with Bequia from the very moment I first visited this small but perfectly formed island. The amazing beaches, all with no crowds, makes a relaxing trip to the beach a real joy. I really love the pretty harbour town of Port Elizabeth which is simply enchanting and full of character too. The locals are extremely friendly and laid back, my favourite saying from one of the locals has to be – ‘Rush Slowly!’ which I think is just brilliant!
Since leaving school (not too many years ago!!) I have always worked in the travel industry and I joined Just Bequia in 2012. I love being part of a team which make holiday dreams become realities. I deal with the administration of our clients’ holidays ensuring that all the i’s are dotted and t’s crossed. It is the detail which counts so much – reserving the best seats on the plane, arranging comfortable and convenient transfers and of course making sure we reserve the very best rooms!
I joined Planos Holidays in 2002 and worked on the administration of holidays to the Greek island of Paxos. I really enjoyed being part of the travel industry but left in 2006 to have my children – two lively young boys! I was delighted however when the opportunity arose to re-join the administration team of what is now the Just Grenada Group in 2017. It is great to see how the company has grown and evolved over the years and I’m really looking forward to getting to know the Caribbean…perhaps a visit?
Our newest addition to the team, Eddie…
One year old now and a real character. A Spaniel/Labrador cross and he has the qualities of both breeds, but being a youngster he still has occasional lapses – and the chewed computer cables and telephone wires are proof of that.
Our little man, who has been on every newsletter and all our websites for 14 years, has gone where the good doggies go. A faithful and constant companion who was with us for what seems like a lifetime, the office will never be quite the same – and nor will we……. RIP little chum
Our Team on Bequia…
This care and personal attention to the needs of our clients is continued on Bequia where we have a wonderful team of locals to help our guests while on the island.
Gideon Ollivierre and his family are a well-known and much-respected local family and have been helping visitors with their travel arrangements for a very long time. We are proud and delighted to have formed a partnership with them and they will be the first people you meet when you arrive in Bequia. Gideon and Bronte Ollivierre operate Gideon Rentals and they and their two charming sons Jensen and Garvin will meet you on arrival and take you to your accommodation. They can assist with Jeep hire and will also be pleased to provide taxis whenever you need them to take you to and from restaurants, beaches or places of interest. They will also take you back to the harbour or the airport when the time comes for you to leave Bequia.
Nicola Redway is our Island Ambassador and she has been an inspiration to us in the creation of Just Bequia. Nicola has lived on the island for 19 years with her partner Wilfred, a hugely talented photographer and graphic designer. Together they have been the driving force behind much of what is good on the island, particularly the Bequia Easter Regatta and Bequia Music Fest. Nicola is always happy to meet guests of ours to pass on advice about the island. She seems to knows everybody on Bequia and is a major part of the Just Bequia team.
We have a long association with various charities in Bequia and we have helped specific projects in other islands too.
The Sunshine School for Children with Special Needs is a privately funded, not for profit, institution administered by a local Board of Directors and is reliant on donations and fundraising in order to offer the students a wonderful learning environment. The Sunshine School for Children with Special Needs provides a nurturing and learning environment for 30 students living in Bequia from the ages 5 through 20 years old. These children exhibit learning issues caused by a variety of physical, behavioral or mental challenges.
The school provides work related and life skills which allows opportunities for students to contribute at home and in their own community.
Friends of Bequia Hospital, was was set up in 2013 to improve medical care on Bequia and supports the 3 medical facilities in Bequia: Bequia Hospital, Port Elizabeth Clinic, and Paget Farm Clinic. The first priority is to ensure that medication, frontline supplies and consumables are available to meet the ongoing needs of the people of Bequia. The ultimate goal of FOBH is to offer a centre of medical excellence, improving medical equipment and preventing the need for Bequia residents to travel to the island of St Vincent for medical care.
Pack for a Purpose
We are delighted to be a supporter of this excellent charity. It is so simple – when you are packing for your holiday, just pack a small bag with things that are desperately needed by charities in the islands – light things like pens and pencils, soft toys etc are especially welcome in the children’s homes – and it can be collected from you at the airport. It is really easy for you to help – ring us for full details.
